Moving through contrast. Movement-based Expressive Arts Workshop

As part of this years National Creativity and Wellbeing week running from the 16th – 22nd May, Tamalpa UK is offering a free workshop, open to participants who wish to experience the resource of moving and dancing outside in the natural environment in a secluded part of Greenwich Park, London.

This movement-based expressive arts workshop with Laura Colomban RSMT, explores how the Tamalpa Life/Art process® an approach that spans over 40 years, can be used to develop your creative expression, enjoy moving in nature, find inspiration and support your wellbeing.

Who’s the workshop aimed at?

You don’t need any previous experience in movement, dance or arts.

This 90 minute workshop is ideal for anyone, at any level, who wants to learn a movement-based approach to resource themselves in life in a creative and insightful way.

Participants who are looking for ways to nourish their lives and de-stress. To spend time slowing down, with the opportunity to connect with their body and the gifts of nature. Creating the mental space and time to be in dialogue with ones own internal and external environment.

Anybody who is needing some time for contemplation, reflection and wishing to discover creative resources, to support navigating current life questions in a structured and safe way.

What’s covered?

It’s a predominantly practical workshop, with time for moving, drawing, writing and sharing. There will also be some brief theoretical discussions to explain the rationale behind the activities.

What you will experience:

  • Warming up & moving your body in a mindful way
  • Guided somatic movement activities in a natural park environment to nourish and take care of your body
  • Creative mark making and drawing
  • Journal writing & creative dialogues
  • Having the opportunity to connect with others in a safe and mindful way
  • The gift of moving with the natural elements

What you will need:

  • Note book and pen
  • Layers of clothing to keep you warm between art activities
  • Bottle of water
  • Optional : Sketch book and art materials (Art materials will be provided)
  • Optional: Something to sit out on, mat, top or waterproof surface etc to sit on when journal writing or drawing

    About the facilitator

    Laura Colomban RSMT

    Laura Colomban is a Registered Somatic Movement Therapist and Educator (ISMETA Institute of Somatic Embodied Therapy Association)and Associate Teacher for Tamalpa UK.

    Her methodologies and approach to the body are rooted in the Tamalpa Life / Art Process® and Atem-Tonus-Ton, which she practises as a therapist since 2012 in group and individual sessions.

    Producer and co-founder of the Podcast DanceOutsideDance, she graduated with distinction at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance in London (Master of Fine Arts, Creative Dance Practice), where she has propelled her research on soma, sound and technologically mediated performance practices.

    She is fond of collaborative processes, collective making and learning, to create an inclusive teaching methodology in conversation with the politics of everyday life.
